Introducing the Barrington Buddies

In assembly this morning (17.9.21) Mr. Storey announced the successful applicants for the position of Barrington Buddies. We are delighted to introduce this fantastic pupil voice group:

Danielle, David, Jessica, Laila, Marianne, Mason, Ryan, Xavier and Kadie.

Our Barrington Buddies will receive formal training on Tuesday 28th September 2021.

Well done everyone!

Spring Term 2022

This week the Barrington Buddies have been reflecting on the importance of their role. We discussed how we felt the previous term had gone and also shared with each other how we have helped. The Buddies were very proud of their impact during break-times, and this is reflected in responses from the children that have received support.

Here are some of the Buddies thoughts:

“I play with the younger children to make them feel included. Me and Marianne also try and help as much as we can.” Laila

“I help the younger children get along and resolve any issues. I also play games like tag with Imogen as she likes to play with me and Laila.” Marianne.

“I help as much as I can, when the Opal and Amethyst children are lining up after lunch I make sure they have their coats and are all there.” Kadie

“I always help with shoes and coats. The younger children always lose their coats and I gather them up and give them back.” Xavier

Buddies & Mini buddies 2019-2020

Chloe and Alice (our Head Buddies) worked with Mrs Stidwell to consider the applications and select this years’ Buddies. There was a huge number of applications and Alice explained that the decisions were very difficult.

At our Celebration Assembly on Friday 20th September 2019, Alice and Chloe announced this years’ team.

Grace, Henry, Aimee, Esther, Lily, Chloe and Tyla will be our Buddies.

Their role in school is to support children, help to mediate when disagreements occur, to provide advice and support to the younger children and to ensure everyone has someone to play with at breaktimes. In addition, they meet regularly with Mrs Stidwell to represent the views of our children.

Our Mini-Buddies are recruited from Year 3 and Year 4 and are ‘Buddies’ in training who support and learn from the older children and more experienced Buddies. This team will hopefully be our Buddies of the future:

Olivia, Annie, Laila, Thomas, Ryan, Xavier, Katee, Keira, Kadie-Mae and David.

Buddies & Mini Buddies 2018-2019

This year our Buddies are:

Holly, Bonnie, Chloe, Thomas, Ben, Kayleigh, Alice, Daniel, William, Jessica & Georgia.

Our Mini-Buddies are:

Lily, Harmony, Leon, Jamie, Lewis, Roxanne, Grace, William, Lucy & Jasmine.

The role of our Buddies and Mini-Buddies is to make sure that children are not alone at playtime and always have someone to go to for help and support. The Buddies are co-ordinated by Mrs Stidwell, who meets regularly with the team. They provide feedback to Mrs Stidwell about anything of concern on the yard and share ideas for developing friendships and relationships. Children can take problems and worries to the Buddies and often they solve these problems themselves, only taking it to an adult when necessary (or serious).

The Buddies and Mini-Buds also keep their eyes open on the yard and every week present an award at our celebration assembly to children who they have noticed being good friends or kind to others.
The team also provide invaluable help and support in the Early Years unit and support the younger children at lunchtime.

It’s a full-time job being a Buddy!
