Here is what we have been doing…

Rainforests

This term, we are looking at the Rainforest in Geography. This Friday, we looked at the climate of the rainforests then worked as a group to put together a weather forecast for a rainforest area. As you can see we had great fun!

Julian Opie Art

In art we have started to look at the artist Julian Opie. He draws simple pictures of bodies and to start off our topic we had a go drawing round the body of our friends in different positions. There was some weird and wonderful body outlines.

African Stories

As part of our stories in other cultures topic in literacy we had a go at telling a range of African stories in a group. We had lots of confidence when telling our stories to another group.

Science Week

The last week in January was our first annual Science week or ‘Stanhope’s Science Spectacular’. We thoroughly enjoyed it and now we all want to be scientists when we grow up! On Tuesday, a lady called Lorraine came in from Durham university. She let us use lots of special science equipment and we even got to make fake snow. On Wednesday, we had a career talk from some scientists in the morning. They showed us what kind of jobs we could do if we stuck in at science. In the afternoon, we looked at our heart. We got to try stethoscopes, an ECG machine and some pulsometers. Thursday was a very fun day. All morning we had the challenge of designing a parachute out of different materials. We had to select the best combination then test our designs. We really had a great science week!

Viking Runes

To start our Viking topic, Class 2 have been painting Viking runes. We wrote our own names ready to go up on to our display.

History Topic: The Romans

Class 2 have produced some fantastic Roman homework as part of our history topic. Children have been building their own Hadrian’s wall, making shields, making Roman pottery and much more! We have loved displaying everybody’s work in the classroom, well done everybody!

Children in Need

Class 2 celebrated Children in Need in style this year. Everyone dressed up for the occasion, donated money to charity and made our own Pudsey bears.

Highlights Craft Exhibition

On Friday 17th November we went to the Highlights exhibition at the church hall to have a look at the light artwork Class 3 had produced. We got to see all of their brilliant artwork and the artwork of other local artists.

Year 4 Tag Rugby Festival

On Monday 16th October 2017, our Year 4’s went to a Rugby Festival held at St. John’s in Bishop Auckland. Mr Myers and Elaine Hunt (Friend of Stanhope Barrington) took the team to the festival. The children had a great time, taking part in a variety of activities. This festival was like a training session focusing on the skill set required to play a proper game of rugby. Our children, as always, were very well behaved and thoroughly enjoyed their trip out.
