World Book Day…Rescheduled

Due to adverse weather, school was closed on the official World Book Day. We enjoy World Book Day so much that we decided to re-arrange it on Friday 9th March 2018. Children across the school came in dressed up as their favourite character and spent the day doing reading activities linked to books and reading.

At 2pm we all met in the hall and the children were asked to choose which reading station they would like to visit. Adults around school read aloud to a group of children who had chosen to listen to stories by a particular author. Mrs Hutchins (Caretaker) read Roald Dahl stories in the hall; Mrs O’Malley (Secretary) read Enid Blyton stories in the school office; Mrs Stidwell and the Early Years team read a range of traditional stories; Miss Elsdon read Alan Alberg stories while Mrs Howes looked at the work of Julia Donaldson. In the library, Miss Hunter-Purvis organised a World Book Day scavenger hunt which was very popular! Mrs Parvin read Horrid Henry stories while Mr Myers had an enormous group who listened as he read extracts from David Walliams’ books.

Children and staff alike had a wonderful time and really enjoyed this reading experience. In fact, we have been asked by the children to do this type of event again – watch this space!
