The second candle, also purple, represents FAITH. It is called the “Bethlehem Candle” as a reminder of Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem. Faith is defined as the complete trust or confidence in someone or something. Imagine the FAITH that Mary and Joseph must have had to trust in God and the Angel Gabriel.
The lighting of the second candle is an opportunity to reflect on the long and difficult journey over rough terrain and in precarious circumstances of a young couple who were acting on complete FAITH.
We all are on a journey. What lessons can we learn from the faithfulness of Mary and Joseph during this season of advent?
“I will walk in FAITH even when I cannot see.” 2 Corinthians 5:7
