Week 1 (Beginning 06.01.25)

Fellowship: Happy New Year

INTENT (06.01.25)IMPLEMENTATIONIMPACT
What does Fellowship mean?We returned to school on Tuesday and Mrs Cross delivered a ‘Happy New Year’ collective worship.
We discussed our new element of the school vision: Fellowship.
We talked about what that means and how we can show that we are good fellow human beings on God’s earth.
 
On Wednesday we looked at the story of David & Jonathan from Mark 4. We watched a powerpoint presentation which told the story of how their friendship was tested and how they fought hard to remain friends against all the odds.
 
On Friday we celebrated our first day back with certificates and awards given out. We celebrated birthdays and other achievements.
The older children were able to articulate what Fellowship means in terms of our school vision.

The children were really engaged in the story of David & Jonathan. They recognised that David was the same person who fought Goliath. They understood how the challenges were a test of their friendship.

Week 2 (Beginning 13.01.25)

Fellowship: Family Orientated

What does to be family orientated mean?On Monday Mr Storey introduced the value of being family orientated by asking the children what a family is? The children responded well and gave several answers.
 
Following this the children were asked to identify how families support us. When a child had an answer, they threw a pom-pom into the middle of the hall. After five minutes of responses we reflected on how man pom-poms were in the middle. Using the analogy, we understood that families are very important to our day-to-day life and we rely on them for support. The children were asked to identify throughout the day all the times they support someone and the impact that will have.
 
On Wednesday we were joined by the Open the Bible team who began our session with an acoustic version of My Lighthouse. Children from 2 – 11 joined in showing superb participation. The Team then performed the story Storm on the Lake (Mark 4) explaining how Jesus stayed calm to help his friends whilst fishing. The children participated during the story and showed excellent engagement.
 
On Friday we had our weekly celebration of achievements this week. Many certificates and awards were given out for children who had demonstrated this week’s theme of being family orientated. We celebrated children who had earned the most Dojo’s this week along with birthdays. This was a joyous assembly which the children absolutely enjoyed.
What is a family?
“A family is people who care for you.”
 
“We have our school family.”
 
“We have our friends who are like a family.”
 
 
What a family provides:
“Love and care.”
 
“A safe environment.”
 
“Laughs and giggles.”
 
 
The children were able to discuss the meaning of being family orientated well. The children also gave examples of how they were and could support their families through actions and discussions.
 
It was lovely to hear how well the children have worked this week.

Week 3 (Beginning 20.01.25)

Fellowship: Respectful

Why is ‘Respect’ a core British Value?On Monday Mrs Cross launched this week’s theme of being respectful. We watched a video made by another school who had explored what ‘respect’ means. Mrs Cross asked for a team of KS2 children to do a similar video for our school which will involve collecting feedback from children, adults and members of our community. The video will be shared on our website.

On Wednesday we listened to a Vlog by Moses about how God gave him the 10 commandments. We discussed them and made them relatable to school.

Mrs Cross linked the discussion about Do Not Tell Lies About Others to online safety and how what we write today will exist forever. We should never write something online we are not prepared to say to someone’s face.

On Friday we celebrated success by awarding a range of certificates and awards. We celebrated birthdays and had a joyful collective worship.
The children really listened well and were engaged in the discussion about difference and all being of equal value because we are all God’s children.

A huge amount of children in KS2 wanted to be involved in the project.

Children were able to talk about Democracy and Liberty.
Children didn’t initially recognise the term ‘British Values’ so this needs to be reinforced.

The children were able to recall the 10 commandments and could give examples of how those rules apply in school.

Week 4 (Beginning 27.01.25)

Fellowship: Courageous Advocacy

INTENT (20.01.25)IMPLEMENTATIONIMPACT
Why do we need to have courage?To begin this week’s session Mr Storey asked the children what they knew about the holocaust.
 
The Diamond children have been studying World War 2 and were able to talk in depth about what happened.
 
The children were then shown a short video that explained how Jewish people were discriminated against because of their religious beliefs. Following the video the children were asked to reflect on the impact that would’ve had, and how they would respond if that happened now. The responses portrayed courageous advocacy as they explained how they would stand up for what they believe in and ensure everyone has equal opportunities.   
 
 
 
 
On Wednesday we were joined by the Open the Bible Team. After recapping our value of courageous advocacy the team performed the story of the Loaves and the Fishes. The children were asked to reflect on the impact belief can have and how being positive can have an impact on our daily life.
 
 
 
 
On Thursday Miss Hunter-Purvis delivered an assembly based on the story of how the Chinese New Year animals were chosen. Children across KS2 acted out the story and thoroughly enjoyed trying to cross the river in character as one of the animals.
 
On Friday we talked about Chinese New Year and discussed the different personality traits of each animal. We had our weekly celebration of achievements this week. Many certificates and awards were given out for children who had demonstrated this week’s theme of being a courageous advocate. We celebrated children who had earned the most Dojo’s this week along with birthdays. This was a joyous assembly which the children absolutely enjoyed.

“The Jewish children had to wear a big star. That would make them stand out and people would be horrible to them.”
 
“If I saw something like that, I would challenge the person and say we are all the same.”
 
“The Jews showed brilliant resilience when they were in the camps. That would’ve been horrible.”
 
 
 
The inclusion of EYFS children in the performance showed how children from 2 year – 11 years were all engaged. The children were eating the bread and joining in with repeated refrains perfectly.
 
Children in KS2 demonstrated excellent sticky knowledge. They were able to recall previously learnt information about Chinese New Year.

Week 5

Fellowship: Trustworthy

Why is being trustworthy important?                                                                                                    On Monday the children gathered for Collective Worship where the Barrington Buddies performed a role play scenario. The children acted out a child finding and keeping a precious item. The Barrington Buddies were asked to freeze as the children instructed them how to act. The children showed great maturity and honesty as they highlighted the importance of being trustworthy. The children were also to recall occasions in the bible where the value of trustworthy appears.   On Wednesday the children gathered for the bible story. The children listened to the story of David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17). The children engaged well to the story as we made links to when the Open the Bible Team acted the story out last year. The children were then asked to consider how David would’ve felt as he approached Goliath. Here are some of their responses: ScaredAnxiousDeterminedPetrified To finish the session the children were then asked to show their inner David, and show resilience and problem solving skills throughout their attitude to life.     On Friday we celebrated success with lots of awards and certificates. Spring Term 1 Week 6

Fellowship: Dependable & Loyal

Why is being dependable and loyal important in Fellowship?                                                                                                    On Monday the whole school were introduced to this week’s value by Mr Storey. Mr Storey asked for two volunteers, one to lie down and one to draw around their peer. Once an outline of a child was present on a large piece of paper we began to unpick the value of being dependable & loyal. The children were asked to identify words that would reflect the value. The children came out and wrote their chosen words on the silhouette of the child. After 4-5 minutes the image was full of words which many were from pervious values we have concentrated on. The children had a great understanding of how they can be dependable and loyal and could also give brilliant examples.   On Wednesday our Open the Bible team delivered a performance called The Lost Coin from Luke 15. Some of our children took part in the performance which told the story of how important one lost coin was and how God and the angels rejoice when one lost person returns to God.   On Friday we celebrated success with lots of awards and certificates. We celebrated birthdays and had a joyful collective worship.                            Vocabulary the children identified:

Spring Term 1 Week 7

Fellowship: Community Minded

What does it mean to be Community Minded?                                                                                                   On Monday the whole school were introduced to this week’s value by Mrs Cross. We talked about all the different types of communities there are including our school community, Stanhope, Weardale, Britain etc.
We watched a video about Random Acts of Kindness Day and children reflected on what acts of kindness they could do this week.
 
On Wednesday the children recapped the meaning of being community minded. The children showed a good understanding of different communities they were part of which showed a huge demographic. As part of the session we discussed the importance of being part of different groups can have. To finish the whole school collective worship session the children reflected on how having great community links can benefit the school.
 
 
On Friday we were joined by our new Challenge and Support Partner (Mr Jones) who thoroughly enjoyed our celebration of achievements. We reflected on our Random Acts of Kindness and talked about being Community Minded with our Early Years children visiting Crosshill Nursing Home this afternoon.
We gave out lots of awards and certificates to celebrate a huge range of achievements including Alice attending a BMX workshop with the Olympic Champion!

Spring Term 2 Week 1

Fellowship: Serving Others

How can we serve others?                                                                                               
On Monday we welcomed the children back from the half-term break with an engaging collective worship session. Initially, the children and staff shared what they had done during the holidays before we unpicked this week’s value. We made links to our previous values and identified aspects of some mirror serving others.

The children then identified how they serve others on a daily basis, in and out of school. The children were engaged during the session and enjoyed seeing their peers on the first morning back.

On Wednesday our Open the Book Team delivered a performance of The Big Spender based on Luke 15. We talked to the children about forgiveness and how sometimes it is easy to forgive and at other times it is much more difficult.

On Thursday we held our World Book Day assembly. We talked about our favourite books and admired all the amazing costumes.

On Friday we held our weekly celebration assembly where certificates and awards were given out, birthdays celebrated and Dojos awarded.

Spring Term 2 Week 2

Fellowship: Compassion

Why is it important to be compassionate?                                                                                               
On Monday Mrs Cross launched this week’s theme of Compassion. The children were unsure of what this meant so we spent some time talking about Com meaning with and passion meaning to suffer/feel strongly.
We watched a video about compassion and saw different examples of how to show compassion to ourselves and others.

On Tuesday we welcomed Mrs Mavin to our school. She rang a singing practice for us and we learnt Morning Has Broken which we will be singing for our Faith Leaders on Multi-faith day.
On Wednesday Mrs Cross talked about the story of Jesus washing the Disciples feet in John 13: 1-20.

We watched an animation and then discussed the moral of the story. We talked about how Jesus was not too important to do this dirty job of washing feet and how we are all created equal in the eyes of God therefore no-one is more important than anyone else.
Friday was our usual celebration assembly with certificates and awards given out and birthdays celebrated.
The children didn’t know what compassion meant but by the end of the worship they had more idea.
 
Children were able to give ideas of how they could show compassion this week.
 
Our children enjoyed singing practice and Mrs Mavin was impressed with the progress they made in one session.
