Remembering Queen Elizabeth II

I am sure you all join me in sending our deepest sympathy and condolences to the family of Queen Elizabeth II.

This morning I took the decision to cancel the normal weekly Celebration Assembly and Collective Worship and instead the whole school came together to reflect on the life of the Queen and to show our respect.

We discussed with the children what will happen next in terms of the 10 days of national mourning, her lying in state and her funeral. We also discussed the accession of King Charles III and what changes the children might see over the coming weeks and months in terms of stamps, money, post boxes and the words of our National Anthem etc.

Our children, as always were immaculately behaved, showing respect and asking sensible and thoughtful questions.

We will be writing messages and prayers to display in our Prayer Space in the main entrance and today the children will be talking about the life and reign of the Queen in their Learning Zones.

At such times, children and staff remember members of their own family who they have lost and therefore our Thrive Practitioners and Mental Health First Aiders are available to provide support if and when necessary.

At the current time I have not had formal notification of the date of the Queen’s funeral and national day of mourning but will share those arrangements with you as and when they are released.
