Power Play at Stanhope Barrington

Prior to half term, pupil voice discussions highlighted that break times were perhaps not as exciting as they could be. We aim to continually develop our school therefore we would like to introduce you to Power Play! Power Play is Stanhope Barrington’s new approach to outdoor play which will provide children with opportunities for more physical activity, socialisation, co-operation, resilience, creativity, imagination and enjoyment through improved play. Using whole school assemblies, we have introduced the project to the children that will rejuvenate play times addressing the views of the pupils to allow play to be more exciting. The aim over the coming weeks and months will be to embed a range of play zones in the outdoor area that will promote imaginative play. The children have been busy suggesting ideas for the different zones and we are almost ready to introduce our initial zones. These include:

  • Construction Zone
  • Mud Kitchen
  • Lego Zone
  • Reading Zone
  • Chill Zone

The children have taken ownership of the project which has allowed them to suggest names for our new exciting play times. As already mentioned, play times will now be known as Power Play. You will soon receive a letter asking for donations to help develop the equipment we have at our disposal. However, in the meantime please take notice of the evolving outdoor area and if you have any ideas please pass them on.

Many thanks,

Mr. Storey
