2021 – 2022
Introducing our Social Action Team members for 2021-2022: Xavier, Thomas, Tommie, Lily, Millie, Jack, Alfie, Henry and Kobi.
At Stanhope Barrington C of E Primary School, we consider our community to be part of school family, both in Stanhope and the whole of the Dale. The Social Action Team will become involved in groups and charities over the coming months, offering our support and ideas to help them. We can’t wait for our first visit, after a long 20 months of not being able to get out and about in the local community!

Supporting the Weardale Foodbank
On Tuesday 23rd November 2021, members of our Social Action Team went with Mrs Cross to St. Thomas’ Church Hall to hand over a collection of food for the food bank and also to restock our Preloved School Uniform rail.
Tommie and Henry helped to sort and hang up pre-loved school uniform which is available from the Church Hall or from the clothes rail at school.
Both boys said they enjoyed being part of the Social Action Team because they liked to help others and make people happy.
Social Action in Action
One of our parents (Sean Emerson) wanted to support local families who were struggling to meet the cost of Christmas presents this year. The response he got from our local community was outstanding with lots of toys and games being donated. He therefore asked for cash donations to help those families with the cost of Christmas lunch.
When our Social Action Team heard about the campaign, they asked Mrs. Cross if the school could support and raise money to make sure children had a Christmas lunch this year.
On Thursday 16th December 2021, Sean came into school to accept the cash raised from members of our Social Action Team. Sean was very grateful and impressed that the children wanted to support the local community.
Stanhope Supports Show the Love Campaign
During the week of 14th February 2022, we supported the Show The Love Campaign. This coincided with Valentine’s Day and our associated value of being community minded.
We thought about what we loved in our world and what we could miss if it disappeared. The focus was on social action against Climate Change and we decided to get as many children as possible to send a Green Heart postcard to our local MP: Richard Holden.
You can see a selection of the postcards in the photo which shows some really creative ideas for our Green Hearts.
There were over 100 postcards which have now been posted to our MP asking him to carry out message to parliament and ask them to take action now to protect our precious world.
Social Action Team 2019-2020
Chloe, Lily, Alex and Lewis are our Social Action Team this year!
This team is responsible for working with our local community to help and support others who live in our Dale.
This team is essential in ensuring close links between the school and our local neighbours.
We are hoping to extend their role this year and look at developing Global neighbours too! Watch this space.
The Digital Voice Project
Our Social Action Team are taking part in a Durham wide project to record the voices of communities to create an archive of experiences and memories.
On Friday 8th November 2019, our Social Action Team attended a training session in how to operate the technical equipment they will be using and they were also taught how to interview people.
In a couple of weeks they will be visiting The Weardale Museum to meet with, interview and record members of our local community for the project. The team had a great day and are really looking forward to their visit to the museum.
Food Bank Collection Point
We just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who is supporting Stanhope Food Bank by donating food at our school collection point.
The donations are taken to St. Thomas’ Church Hall every Tuesday morning ready for collection when the Food Bank opens at 12noon.
We are so pleased that everyone at school is supporting us in this project as it is very important to support others in our local community.
