The Story Explorers

This half-term we have turned our attention to a number of stories which has allowed the children to access our wonderful school grounds.

We’re Going on a Bear Hunt – During this story we went hunting for bears in our Forest School area. The children followed the story as they battled the elements before being confronted by a bear (Mrs. Humble). Following the story, the children wrote some fantastic captions as well as being set the challenge to retell and sequence the story.

Greta and the Giants – This was a new story to us all as it is based on Greta Thunberg and portrays the impact people are having on the environment. Feeling inspired we decided to hold a protest. Initially, we created signs calling for people to ‘save our forest’. After our signs were made we trudged up to our wooded area and placed our signs.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar – Over the last week we have concentrated on this story. The children have used pasta to create the Life cycle of a butterfly, we have created symmetrical butterfly wings and also completed a bug hunt in our bug hotel.

Welcome Back

The EYFS Staff cannot believe how well all of the children have settled since returning to school. It has been fantastic to see so many happy, smiley faces entering Reception and Nursery each morning. Well done to each and every one of you, you have really blown us away!

Our first full week has allowed the children to explore the unit, get to grips with our class rules and also begin our all-important learning. We have made a great start with Phonics and Numeracy and the children have showed a real willingness to learn.

The feedback from the children has been brilliant:

“I love school. I love the beach we have in the classroom that we can play in.” Isabella

“I have missed all my friends. I never saw some of them for ages but I can play with them all again now.” Emily

However, the best one I heard was; “Mr Storey you are not scary at all!” Jack.

The EYFS Staff would also like to take this opportunity to say thank you for your patience during drop off and collection times. It has been very calm and seamless, we really do appreciate your co-operation during these unprecedented times.
