This week in school we are focussing on Black History Month and each class is taking a different area to focus on.
Our youngest children in EYFS are reading a story by Trish Cook called: So Much. Class 1 are learning about the Olympic boxer – Nicola Adams and will then learn about the history of black sports personalities. Class 2 will be learning about the life and times of Mallory Blackman (a famous author). Class 3 will be learning about the amazing Nurse Seacole who practiced nursing skills long before the NHS existed. Class 4 are learning about the life and achievements of Lilian Bader who served in the armed forces. Class 5 will learn about the Windrush and the impact this migration had on life in Britain.
At the end of the week, each class will be putting up a display of children’s work in the hall to share what they have learnt with each other.
