On Friday, 1 July the children from Y1 and Y2 had their end-of-year trip at the Durham Botanical Gardens. Rain was in the forecast but it turned out to be a beautiful day spent searching the gardens for Jack’s beanstalk. The children saw a variety of plants including a plant that can fake it’s own death (Mimosa pudica), a Giant Redwood, a Silver Birch grove, numerous cacti and rainforest plants. The children produced some fantastic artwork of themselves climbing a beanstalk and then they were able to each plant a seed to see if they could grow a beanstalk like Jack’s! One of the children was overheard saying to her friend: “This isn’t just a garden…this is PARADISE!”
