War Week 2021 at Stanhope Barrington

This week in school we have been learning about the war(s) including Remembrance Day. Each Learning Zone has covered this is different ways:

Opal and Amethyst have learnt a poem which they then performed to the older children in the Diamond Learning Zone. They did a two-minute silence at the school’s Remembrance Stone outdoors. The children in Diamond were so impressed that they gave our EYFS children a certificate in celebration assembly this morning. They have also done a literacy focus about Remembrance Day.

In Sapphire, children learnt about the meaning of poppies and they did abstract art linked to that. They learnt about children in the Blitz and made a box of items they would take to the air raid shelter and they also did acrostic poems. In art, they designed their own medals.

In Ruby, the children created poppy designs and then wrote their own poems. These amazing creations were then displayed in the Learning Zone window for others to see. A two-minute silence was held in their Learning Zone at 11am.

In Emerald, children made a poppy then attached it onto a background which was a newspaper article about VE Day. They also learnt about the reason why we wear poppies today.

In Diamond, we learnt about the meaning of poppies and why we wear them and learnt about the meaning of different coloured poppies. They held a two-minute silence in their Learning Zone and produced some amazing artwork and written work linked to the different coloured poppies.

In conclusion, as members of the Shadow Leadership Team, we are very impressed with all of the work they have produced in each Learning Zone. Everyone we’ve spoken to has really enjoyed War Week and has learnt a lot.
